A Basket of Passion-Flowers and Mourningbrides

Though I never loved you, you still occasionally cross my mind
and while "we" were never a possibility,
I sometimes wonder if I will ever experience another love so profound

For in your eyes I was your savior
racing in atop a stallion to save you from yourself
cutting through the figments of your imagination with ease

Fully knowing I wouldn't say yes,
you handed my pages of poetry confessing love and reverence,
for in your eyes I had saved you from the saints

You would converse with invisible beings that stood above us
you would stand terrified, tormented by those only you could see
and in caring for your safety, instead of taking flight,
I inadvertently donned a set of armor and became your knight

I can only pray that time has done you a service,
and that I may remain as a light
