Hearts full of Dhalias and Pearly Everlastings

I lay there once again wrapped up in your sweater
gentley cradled by the warmth you left behind
lulled into dreams filled entirely by you

Dreams of nights just like these,
of waking up while the sun still sleeps,
cold and hungry with your dog at my feet,
opening my eyes only to see you resting in my arms,
still wholly unaware and blissfully asleep

Dreams of afternoons from years past,
of abandoned zoos and torn fencing,
shielded by thick brush and a maze of colorful concrete walls
simply enjoying eachothers company
unaware of the consequences yet to come

Dreams of mornings from last summer,
of beautiful sunrises and steep hills covered in trees and tall grass;
hidden by the pines and blocked off roads
we washed our clothes in an icy river,
the banks overrun with roses

Dreams of mornings so early they might as well have wtill been night,
lying in bed staring at a screen giggling,
each telling the other that they should already have been asleep,
a girl in red song left on repeat

And although I know that I cannot sleep forever,
I still snooze my alarm a couple more times,
hoping to return to my dreams of your warm everlasting embrace
